Be the first to review

What’s the best time to visit CARDIFF, WALES

Cardiff can be a rainy city so you should expect at least one week of rain per year even during the summer. Summer is still the best time to visit the city, while June is the driest month of the year.

It is important to mention that Cardiff can be visited throughout the year and that the Winters over are extremely mild. The average temperature hovers at 8 degrees Celsius, which is very warm for this time.

Cardiff Castle

Summer is the most active season for events. There are numerous food festivals, music events and many other exciting things. Autumn also has lots to offer thanks to the many carnivals it hosts. It’s worth considering coming to the city in September, or later.

A FEW FACTS ABOUT CARDIFF

Archaeological evidence has shown that people lived in the area now known as Cardiff (Caerdydd, in Welsh) before Stonehenge was constructed. The area was conquered by the Romans later on and their fort served as the foundation of Cardiff Castle.

Cardiff Castle

Cardiff became the capital city of Wales in 1955. This makes it one the newest capital cities of Europe. The city also houses the oldest record shop in the country: Spiller’s Records, which was established in 1894.

Doctor Who fans will find it interesting to learn that a lot of Doctor Who was shot in Cardiff. Another interesting fact is that Captain Henry Morgan was also born in Cardiff. Remember where that famous rum came from when you go to buy it again!

Let us present the best things to do in Cardiff!

CARDIFF ITINERARY – ONE DAY

Go straight to Cardiff Castle

We started by visiting Cardiff Castle, a beautiful castle and one of the main attractions in the city. This is more than an empty building. State Apartments are filled with amazing artifacts and you can find them inside. The castle is home to many amazing works of art, and the Banqueting Hall is truly unique.

Cardiff Castle

It is easy to lose time here. However, if you are only spending one day in Cardiff, you can save your time by taking tours that will take you to the most important parts.

Visit the National Museum Cardiff

We wanted to know more about the history and culture of Wales after we had seen the castle. The National Museum Cardiff is close by so it’s easy to get there. There is a lot to see, including some items that go back as far as the dinosaurs. You can even find paintings by some the greatest painters ever to be found in this section of art.

There are many archaeological finds that can be found in the area, which tell a fascinating story about life thousands of years ago. This place is a great place to learn and it’s close to the castle.

Enjoy lunch at Cardiff Bay’s shores

Cardiff Bay

It was now time to have lunch after all the history. Cardiff Bay is the perfect place to enjoy the amazing vibes and food of the city. This place is huge so if you are looking for lunch, the best option is to go to the area northeast of Cardiff Bay Wetlands Reserve.

You’ll be amazed at how the docks have reinvented themselves and how modern and wealthy they are. And you can choose from many great restaurants like Las Iguanas and Yakitori1.

If you feel up to it, you can take a stroll through the wetlands reserve after lunch.

Visit the Senedd

The Senedd, which is the Welsh parliament, was another thing we saw that was near us. Although Wales is part of the UK and has its own representative body, it can make decisions about life in Wales.

Senedd, Cardiff

It is interesting to see that the building was opened only in 2006. It is also one of the most eco-friendly parliaments in the world. It’s usually open from 16:30 to 16:00 every day. You can also sit at the cafe on the upper level and enjoy the debates.

The White Water adrenaline rush is real

We’d seen a lot of history, and we had good food. We even tried our hand at politics. It was now time to have some serious fun. Cardiff International White Water is located close to all of the above-mentioned restaurants. This place was created for the 2012 Olympics in London.

You can adjust everything to suit your level of skill, including the water power and the obstacles encountered. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an experienced kayaker. It can actually be a lot of fun for all the family. We tried bravely to tackle a more difficult course but failed miserably. But let’s not go into that now.

Visit the Wales Millenium Centre

Wales Millenium Centre is an excellent place to go if you’re looking for a show, or a chance to dress up for opera. You can also shop and enjoy good food. This is everything that a modern arts center should be, and it will show you how alive the city really is.

EXTRA TIPS TO VISIT CARDIFF

Although the weather can change a lot here, it is always consistent with the same temperature. It’s important to take the time to plan what you’re going with (I didn’t but I was blessed enough to have great weather).

If you are looking for somewhere to leave your bags for a while, you will find that most hotels allow this. You can also rent lockers at shopping centers, especially in St. David’s.

“Diolch”, “Thank you”, “Iechyd Da” (“Cheers”) and “Esgusodwch fi”) are some phrases that you can use in Welsh to get to know the locals. They appreciate it when you take the time to learn their language.

The Cardiff VIsitor Card is a great way to save money on attractions and tours, as well as at some restaurants. It can therefore be a good investment.
